Ah, yes - modern farmhouse style. The home decorating trend we just can't seem to get enough of thanks to the likes of Joanna Gaines, Erin Napier, Jenny Marrs, and so many others. It seems we can't get enough shiplap, white kitchen cabinets, black hardware, and rustic signs announcing which room you're in, or what you should be doing while in that room.
Or can we?
Admittedly, most folks have hopped on the modern farmhouse haywagon and for good reason. Farmhouse style is comfortable, cozy, approachable, and (sometimes,) affordable. It's also quite lovely with its natural fabrics and neutral colors. There's no doubt that after a long, tough day we enjoy the simple comforts that a farmhouse-inspired home can provide.
With all its charm, however, trends seem to be pointing away from the modern farmhouse style as we've known it, according to google trends, at the start of 2022.
Bright whites are giving way to creamy alabasters, seaside blues like aqua and turquoise are shifting to out to sea with navy and jade, and natural greens like olive and sage are back in a big way. Smooth linens are shifting towards nubby ethnic weaved textiles and matte black hardware is being replaced with a subtly-shimmering bronze. We're not inclined to hang wood-framed sentiments like, "eat", "gather", and "family" on our walls, but rather we're leaning towards organic landscapes and florals clad in antique gold frames.
So, what do you do if you're on a budget and every room of your house is shiplapped, covered in farmhouse signs, and accented with turquoise throw pillows - but you love following the trends? Do you throw everything out and repaint every wall?
Of course not. This is real life.
While the modern farmhouse as we've known it for the better part of the past decade may be fading, it's not going away completely. Rather, it's evolving into a Boho Farmhouse Chic. A richer, more refined version of "farmhouse." This is great news for those of us who have the current farmhouse style in our homes: we don't need to change much (or anything at all, if we don't want to).
However, if you want some fresh updates, try the following affordable solutions:
Update your throw pillows with new, olive green covers.
Upgrade your houseplant obsession with chic new pots.
Throw a new ethnic-patterned blanket across your couch or bed.
Switch out some cabinet hardware to this lovely new brass trend.
If you love following the trends, you don't need to break the bank to update your space - unless, of course, you want to. And, of course, you don't have to follow any trend or particular style at all!
And if you're looking for a handful of fresh, simple decor items to update your space, be sure to shop the product page at Andrea's Attic - we've got plenty of affordable home decor solutions.
In the end, it's your home and the decor that you love is ultimately all that matters.
